Obituary: Harold A. Browning Jr., a former reporter and assistant city editor
at the old Louisville Times, died Thursday at his home in Rolling Fields after a
long battle with diabetes. He was 63. Browning joined the Times staff as a
reporter in 1961 and served as assistant city editor for a number of years
before retiring in 1976 because of ill health. Browning, a native of Lexington,
also had worked as a wire editor for the old Lexington Leader. He was a member
of the First Christian Church of Williamsburg and the Filson Club. Survivors
include his wife, the former Carolyn Siler; his mother, Mrs. Harold A. Browning
Sr. of Lexington; and a sister, Mrs. Thomas Phelps of Frankfort. The body was
cremated. A graveside service will be at noon tomorrow in Highland Cemetery in
Williamsburg.
