Charlie Browning Sr.
CASTLEWOOD -- Charlie E. "Jerry" Browning Sr., 86, died Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, in Johnson Memorial Hospital , Abingdon.
He was born in Russell County, Va., the son of the late John and Virgie Honaker Browning. He was retired from Russell County School System as a bus driver after 43 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II. Mr. Browning was a farmer and owner of his own trucking company, hauling coal. He attended Sulphur Springs Methodist Church, Castlewood. He was a loving father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Wilma B. Browing; two daughters, Patricia Helton and husband, Gene of Lebanon and Elaine Wampler of Castlewood; six sons, Charlie "Buster" Browning and wife Mary Lou of Castlwood, Wayne Browning and wife Judy of Castlewood, Greg Browning and wife Teresa of Lebanon, Robert "Bobby" Browning of Castlewood, L.C. Browning and wife, Karen of Castlewood and Darrell Browning of Castlewood; one sister, Mary Margaret "Sue" Thomas and husband Daniel of Sarasota, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel, Castlewood, with Rev. Charlie Killen, Rev. Larry Smith and Rev. Bill Snead officiating. Interment will follow in Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood. Pallbearers will be Tony Browning, Chris Browning, Bill Biggs, Abe Morrison, Corey Wampler and Allen Browning. Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Helton, David Cozzolino, Duff Meade, Joe Kiser, Bill Coalson and Gaines "Trump" Purcell.
