The Declaration of the Heirs of Enos Browning, In order to obtain the benefit
of the Act of Congress of the 7th of June 1832, State of Virginia County of
Washington, On this 3rd day of December 1853, personally appeared in the Open
Court, John Browning son and Heir of Enos Browning dec, a resident of the County
of Wyoming and State aforesaid, aged 59 years Who is due and Solemn form
of Law, doth on his oath declare and make the following declaration, In order to
obtain the benefit of the provision made by the Act of Congress ____ the 7th of
June 1832, that his father Enos Browning was a Soldier of the Revolutionary War,
that he enlisted in the Virginia Continental line for five years, during the
War, that he did so enlist in the County of Culpeper, State aforesaid, and that
he was under the Command of Gen Greene, that he served to the end of the War in
the year 1783, that he was honorably discharged and that his discharge was
burned in his home when it was consumed, that proof since is filed in the Bounty
Land Office on which proof ___ ___ to, and was ___ by said Enos Browning ___one
hundred acres for service in the War of the Revolution, that the said Enos
Browning and Jane his wife were married in 1777 or 8. Record of which was
consumed when his discharge has burned, that the said Enos Browning never
applied for a pension and that he departed this life in the County of Washington
in the year 1815. That his widow Jane Browning departed this life in the county
of Logan in the year 1843 about the 15th of Nov, that the said Jane Browning at
her death left the following named children, who are still living, Edmund
Browning, their first born child, now aged seventy five years, Frances Browning,
James Browning, John Browning and Jacob Browning, the heirs very respectfully
ask with the proof of service on file in the Bounty Land Office and this proof
address that ____in their case conform with the letter and spirit of the ___
Sections of the Act of the 7th of June 1832/36 that the said Enos Browning,
never did during his natural life apply for pension the heirs claim pension in
light of the widow Jane Browning their mother on that Clause of the ___ where it
is enacted if marriage took place before the termination of the soldiers service
in 1783. She shall obtain form the 4th March 1831. Else was March 1836 the
parties were married in 1777 n 8., the last service of the said Enos terminated
at the peace of 83, at which time, his eldest child Edmund Browning on his
return home was a small boy able to walk, in consequence the heirs claim file
pension per annum in light of the widow from the 4th day of March 1836 to
the day of her death on the 15th day of Nov 1843. Making twelve years full per
annum, the affidavit of Francis Browning, now enclosed, marked letter A, shows
not only the date of marriage but state of celebration, and ___ of marriage by
Magistrate, the said Francis being upwards of one hundred years of age, of sound
mind and memory and being the kinsman of the said Enos __ __ opportunity, and
natural affection has stored up the facts he has deposed to, in the chamber of
memory which cannot be forgotten.

John Browning personally appeared in court and subscribed and made oath to the
foregoing declaration as one of the heirs of Enos Browning and of Jane his wife
deceased, in order to obtain the pension due to the said Jane Browning.

On this day personally appeared before me a justice of the peace of the
aforesaid, Francis Browning a resident of the said county aged one hundred and
one years, Who in due and solemn form of law, doth on his oath declare, that
Enos Browning returned from the revolutionary War in the year 1782, that he
served long enough in the Virginia Continental line to entitle him to Bounty
land, War award to his children by the State of Virginia since his death, that
his oldest child living is Edmund Browning who is now 72 years of age, that the
said Enos and his wife Jane his wife who was Jane Teim, were married about the
close of the War in North Carolina by Magistrate which accounts for the
marriage not being found in Clerks office, but that they were truly married and
were legally husband and wife acknowledging each other as such, and
acknowledging their children as their lawfully begotten____, and that the bounty
land of said Enos should from the Virginia land office in the names of his
children who were his heirs at Law (to wit, Edmund, Francis, James, John &
Jacob Browning.

Richmond March 4, 1840
The heirs of Enos Browning is allowed Land Bounty for is services as a soldier
in the Continental line for the term of three years.
The Register will issue a Warrant accordingly, if not heretofore drawn.

In a Court held for Logan County at the Court House on the 21, Sept 1840
Before the County Court the following facts were proven by the oath of Susannah
Vance who deposeth that Enos Browning a Revolutionary War soldier died about the
year 1817. That it appears to the Court that said Enos Browning died intestate
leaving Edmund, Frances, James, John & Jacob Browning being all his children
and that Betsy (a daughter of said decedent) died leaving Josiah, James,
Lucinda, Harley and Guy her children and that she died intestate and unmarried
about ten years ago, which facts are ordered to be certified to the Register of
the Land Office

Browning, illegitimate children of Elizabeth Browning who came into court with

In a Court held for Russell County at the Court house on the 5th day of February
1856
Caleb Browning aged 38 years, a respectable person and entitled to credit
personally appeared in Court and having duly sworn deposeth and saith that he
was well acquainted with Jane Browning widow of Enos Browning deceased and that
she died in the county of Logan State of Virginia on the 15th day of September
and that their are now five of her children living, named Edmund, Francis,
James, John and Jacob Browning, that he was living with her at the time of her
death and that she was his grandmother and that he is not interested in her
pension and thereupon it is ordered to be certified.

Logan Circuit Court Fall term 1854
The following paper was presented in court and was ____
Virginia, Logan County , Min of Arracena ___
This day formally appeared before me Thomas Dun English, Mayor of the town of
Arracana, and Justice of the peace ex officio. John Vance of the County of Logan
aforesaid who in being duly worn on the Evang____ of Almight ___ deposes and
says that he knew Mr. Jane Browning, the widow of Enos Browning, and mother of
Henry, Charles, Caleb, Betsey, Frances, Edmund, James, John and Jacob Browning.
That she died during or about the month of November 1842. That Caleb and Betsey
Browning are dead and Henry and Charles believed to be and that the said Mrs.
Jane Browning died at _land Creek in this County and furthermore this diplomat
with ___.
